Computer Science I/Computer Programming

What is Computer Science I/Computer Programming at Hays High School?

Why should you take Computer Science I/Computer Programming

  • Basic beginner level class that teaches you programming concepts.
  • Can receive Austin Community College credit.
  • Compete in academic UIL Computer Science competition.
  • Computer Science I/Computer Programming is a year long beginning programming course that introduces students to the Java language. Students do not need any prior knowledge of computers or programming.

The course focuses more on beginner level programming projects where students will complete games, web applets, and business applications. Since Computer Programming is a pre-requisite for Game Design I (and I teach both classes), students will get a head start designing and creating games.

Students will be introduced to competing in academic UIL computer science competition. This is a great extra curricular activity that stands out on a college application.

The student will have a solid foundation if they decide to take AP Computer Science or Game Design .
